Response to the Meatrix

Fallacy is a belief about a situation or condition that is a mistaken one. People have stereotypes about various issues, such as meat consumption, which remain fallacious. Meatrix is an animated video that focuses on a factory farm and industrial agricultural practices with a critical point of view. The aim of the film lies in encouraging people to buy organic food products and free-range meats. The Meatrix has an appeal to ignorance fallacy. An anthropomorphic bull, Moopheus, approaches Leo, a pig, to inform it of the illusion in the farm that Leo has known for a long period. Fallacy appears when Moopheus explains how the managers feed the calves with dead animals that, in turn, infect them with diseases. Besides, the film shows how harmful antibiotics are to the animals, making the meat production in the industry unfit for consumption. The bull takes advantage of the pig’s ignorance and uses it to construct the argument to fit the situation. Consequently, the pig believes the argument, which proves that it is an appeal to ignorance fallacy. There is the possibility that knowledge of how the young cows are fed will negatively affect the audience’s response to the film. When one watches the video, they tend to think about the impact of the infections on the meet product. In reaction, an individual will tend to think that red meet is unhealthy and, therefore, will avoid its consumption. Such a change in the attitude fulfils the film’s objective to make people switch to the consumption of organic food products.

Indeed, it is true that the video contains fallacies. Besides, the controversy of the use of words makes them represent lies concerning the factory farm. However, it is incorrect to talk about “a large amount of fallacies” as the Padgett presents it. Her post also begins with many general statements not addressing the question. However, it mentions the fallacies at the end of the piece. Moreover, the use of past tense in responding to the video proves invalid. She should have presented her work using the present tenses. Brittany also talks about fallacies and facts without distinguishing ones from the others, thereby not showing how the video is fallacious. However, Padgett points to fallacies in the film and explains them vividly. For instance, the response states, “Animals are being modified to produce more meat, they are getting chemicals in their feed, and the conditions in which they live are horrendously over crowded”. The phrase identifies fallacy in the video in response to what the question wants. On the other hand, the author offers a solution to the problem instead of pointing to the effects the video may have on the audience and their attitude. The question is specific: how the fallacies affect the audience’s attitude.

It is clear that Miller’s paper meets the requirements. The paper defines fallacy and identifies the specific type of fallacy that the film contains. Besides, it uses the present tenses in responding to the video. It is true that the film contains fallacies. In response, the author chooses logical fallacy to explain the video’s content. The author mentions, “There are several points brought up about how baby cows are being fed dead animals and being infected with diseases”. The point identifies one of the fallacies in the story, and Miller uses it to answer the questions. Moreover, the paper has good connection between sentences and paragraphs. A reader thus finds it flowing in the way in which it presents the ideas. Miller also discusses the use of ethos, logos, and pathos in the film in answering the question. At the same time, the writer explains how the video is likely to affect the audience’s attitude. Miller states, “I do, however, think this film makes people want to play closer attention to what they are putting into their bodies and it also may want to make others do research on this topic”. Overall, the response addresses every bit of the question.
